| JURAJ JERNAIC'S MASTER'S CERTIFICATE

An extremely luxurious painted decoration of Varazdin hatmaker Juraj Jernaic's master's certificate is interesting, among other things, because it represents a stylized panorama of Varazdin with its landmarks: The feudal fortress and St. Nicholas' parochial church behind the defense walls with round towers and the southern city gates. The smaller picture shows Jernaic's house with the shop on the ground-floor and a symbol shaped as Napoleon's hat on the wall. It is a typical Varazdin craftsman's home, with living quarters on the first floor and workshop and store on the ground floor. The building that still exists in Optujska ulica has kept its original appearance almost entirely. |
