![]() As a terrestrial being, man has developed land transportation first. At the very beginning, people were mere pedestrians, while somewhat later they became assisted by animals: Horses, camels, elephants, etc. Wheel, the basic element of land transportation, first appeared 3000 years BC. Land vehicles were first driven by man, but soon animals were used to replace him. Ever since the beginning, man was trying to create an automotive vehicle. However, the development of automotive land transportation was made possible only by the steam engine discovery, applied mostly in railroad transportation. As for road vehicles, their problem was not resolved before the internal combustion engine's application. This Museum's department includes various bicycles, motorcycles, and automobiles powered by gasoline or diesel engines; track vehicles, trams, and locomotives. |
