Donated by Josip Juraj Strossmayer in 1890.
This elegant Umbrian Mother of God was purchased as the work of the
Emilian painter Francesco Francia. However, in the 1911 Gallery catalogue,
Pietro Perugino was listed as the possible author, while, as of 1926
(Téreyev's catalogue), it has been listed as a work of Eusebio da San
Giorgio. Lately, an anonimous Umbrian rondo master of Greenville has
been suggested as its author. In other words, it would appear that the
painting has been searching for its author for the past hundred years
now.
