Franjo Pommer: "IVAN KUKULJEVIC SAKCINSKI"

Franjo Pommer was born in Denmark in 1818. He came to Zagreb in the 50's, and stayed on until the end of his life, in 1879.

In 1856, he opened a photographic studio "in Gornji Varos, Vijecnicka 10", thus becoming the city's first professional photographer. That same year, he undertook a major cultural/ photographic venture of preparing an album with 15 photographs of renowned Croatian writers: Babukic, Bogovic, Demeter, Kukuljevic, Sulek, Vukotinovic, Gaj, Antun and Ivan Mazuranic; Preradovic, Stoos and Trnski. The album was published on 10 July, 1856.

Among the first six photographs, there is a portrait of Ivan Kukuljevic Sakcinski, whose original is kept at the . It is a full face portrait, taken while the subject was sitting in an unbuttoned tight-fitting braided jacket in front of a light background.
