Lebbeus Woods (b. 1940), architect & designer, New York, USA advanced architecture through his experiments and research work. He established and managed the Research Institute for Experimental Architecture (RIEA), New York.

The spatial structure named "The Sign of Changes" was created within the programme entitled "The Zagreb Free Zone" (1991). Similarly to Woods' designs for other world centres (underground Berlin, Paris in the air), this one also constitutes an example of commensalism and dialogue with the existing urban context where "free space" subtly corresponds to spiritual aspirations. Instead of merely redestributing common architectural patterns, Woods believes in the possibility of their dynamic reconstruction.
