The Museum's graphic design collection today consists of 5,000 posters and 2,000 different objects from the area of visual communications (over 7,000 altogether). The poster collection constitutes a separate unit, presenting the history of posters in Croatia, as well as containing a valuable collection of foreign posters. All poster types are represented - from unique items to those political and commercial. The holdings also contain posters designed for the Museum's own exhibitions. Apart from their documentary value, they also indicate the development of graphic design in the area: From painted posters from the turn of the century to those reflecting new avant-garde tendencies in design and museology of the 60's, as well as the plurality of modern developments.
The Museum's new permanent exhibition opened in 1995 holds graphic &
product design items from the periods of Secession, Art Deco, and those
made since the 60's.
