DOCUMENTATION HOLDINGS
Specialist archive
The Mestrovic Atelier in Zagreb and the Ivan
Mestrovic Gallery in Split both possess extensive archives
and substantial collected documentation (publications, letters,
manuscripts, newspaper articles, photographs, contracts…)
directly or indirectly relating to Ivan Mestrovic, his life
and work, the artistic environment he worked in, and the overall
context of his activities. The authentic material from the
artist's time is an especially valuable portion of the archive
in the Ivan Mestrovic Gallery in Split. Ivan Mestrovic donated
most of that material through contract of donation, and the
rest was bought or presented to the Gallery by Ivan Mestrovic's
heirs, collaborators, and friends. Parts of the archive material
and documentation, as well as the collection of architectonic
plans in the Mestrovic Atelier in Zagreb, are legal property
of Ivan Mestrovic's heirs only deposited in the Atelier.
Library
The libraries of the Mestrovic Atelier in Zagreb and the
Ivan Mestrovic Gallery in Split are closed to the public and
are accessible to the Ivan Mestrovic Foundation staff only.
If needed for professional or scholarly projects, and with
the permission of the museum management, the material can
also be made available to students or expert public figures.
Various publications, relevant to Ivan Mestrovic's work and
allowing a wider artistic insight, are mostly donated, collected
though exchange with similar institutions, or bought. A portion
of the library holdings of the Mestrovic Atelier in Zagreb
is legal property of Ivan Mestrovic's heirs only deposited
in the Atelier.

Photo-, slide-, and video library
The photo-documentation of the Mestrovic Atelier
in Zagreb and the Ivan Mestrovic Gallery in Split includes
archive and recent photographs, negatives, slides, microfilms,
and films, all collected through donation or purchase, or
ordered. The material concerns Ivan Mestrovic's life, his
family, artistic activities, and art works. The part of the
documentation containing archive and documentary photographs
and glass negatives is a deposit (legal property of Ivan Mestrovic's
heirs). The video-documentation includes taped television
programme on Ivan Mestrovic or the Ivan Mestrovic Foundation,
as well as video material (VHS and DVD) from recent exhibitions,
happenings, and educational activities organized in the
Mestrovic Atelier and the Ivan Mestrovic Gallery.
Newspaper articles archive
Documentation holdings also include collected and registered
articles and reports from daily press and specialist magazines,
relating to Ivan Mestrovic's life and work, museum and gallery
activities of the Ivan Mestrovic Foundation, cultural
heritage and its protection, and museological issues in general.
