ACTIVITIES - STUDY TOURS

  • Plazibat Danica
    - a study tour of the USA (October/November 1997) within the Ivan Mestrovic in America project, aiming to research, register, and document Ivan Mestrovic's life and work in the USA (1947-1962). All travel expenses were covered by the sponsoring institution The Open Society Institute through the Research Support Scheme tender. The central event of the visit to the USA and the research itself was a tour of several institutions housing substantial collections of Ivan Mestrovic's works: University of Notre Dame, Indiana, University of Syracuse, NY, and Louisiana Arts & Science Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The curator Danica Plazibat also visited numerous museums with Ivan Mestrovic's works, located in different cities (Chicago, Detroit, Washington, New York), sites with undocumented Mestrovic's sculptures, and several private collectors. The material gathered represents an insight into the scope of Mestrovic's activities and his creative work in the last fifteen years of his long and stratified artistic career.

  • Plazibat Danica
    USA, 21st September-12th October 1998
The project Ivan Mestrovic in America continues. The invitation of Sr. Bianca Haglich, the Associate Professor of Art at Marrymount College Tarrytown, the state of New York, served as the immediate cause. Sr. Haglich, the curator whom Danica Plazibat met on her last study tour of the USA in 1997, had attended a postgraduate course in sculpture at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, the state of Indiana in summer/autumn 1961 in the class of Ivan Mestrovic (until he died). Mrs Haglich presented the Ivan Mestrovic Foundation with her own documentary material concerning Ivan Mestrovic's life and work in America (photographs, newspaper articles, letters), with two Mestrovic's sketches (?), as well as with one of her own works - a plaster sculpture portraying Ivan Mestrovic made in the sculptor's studio of the University of Notre Dame while Mestrovic was still alive.
