The Ethnographic Collection contains several groups of thematically linked objects that enable us to learn about the folk way of life and folk creativity.
The hand and foot driven potters wheel and a multitude of earthenware vessels illustrate pottery. Wickerwork, basket making and the reasons for using twigs, straw and grass are illustrated by baskets, bee-hives and other objects that are made using these materials. Carpentry is illustrated by a large number of wooden objects for everyday use. Some of them are decorated using fine net-like carving or carved ornaments.
our choice...
Textile handiwork made using vertical or horizontal looms and yarn-beams can tell many stories about the rich tradition of making linen, about ornaments and cultural trends in our region. Folk costumes, embroidery and decorative lace are evidence of what the people liked, what they had to do and the models they looked up to. The collection of Easter eggs and gingerbread complete the cultural image of the Karlovac region. It is a crossroads of many traditions that meet and interact here, confronting each other and yielding to each other this is the ethnographic reality of our region.
The collection suffered heavy damage during the Patriotic War.
