THE COLLECTION OF STONE SCULPTURES |
| The collection includes over 3,000 pieces. They are mostly early medieval sculptures, but there are also items pertaining to other both earlier and later periods. Most monuments are in fact parts of church movables decorated by typical pre-Romanesque compositions and motifs in shallow plane relief. They are dominated by geometrical bodies in various combinations of two- and three-branched bands, as well as complex iconographic compositions (cross with antithetically positioned birds, cross and palmettes under the arcades). |
