The decoration has the shape of a slanted rectangle with rounded edges. The band features carved ornaments and figurative decorations. Along the edges is a string of palmettas and astragals. The shorter sides are decorated with large, open double-petal flowers, one on each side, with each of the longer sides featuring a carved dragon (or a fish) with a large head and open mouth showing teeth and the tongue that is stuck out. The fishes have carved scales and bent bodies ending in a fin. The top section is flat and without ornaments. The object is hollow and is at the back provided with an opening which was used to stuck the ornament onto the top of the bent ship bow. Although coarsely wrought, the ornament is very beautiful. The wood has s dark patina.
