The picture depicts a three-masted ship moored in a port. The anchor is not lowered, the vessel is instead moored to a large buoy. The vessel's hull is dark grey. Under the bowsprit there is a white wooden figurehead. The superstructure is all white. On the small house at the stern is a white boat. A small kitchen chimney near the bow is giving off a weak smoke. At the foremast is a Croatian flag, and at the mainmast a white banner with a red border bearing the vessel's name - Danica. At the mizzenmast there is a large Austrian flag and four code flags. Different shades of grey predominate. The large bark lies motionless on the smooth surface of the sea. The horizon is veiled in a heavy mist. The canvas is enclosed in a golden frame on a stretcher.
