Carlo Maratta (Camerino, 1625 - Rome, 1713) was a representative of the late baroque art, in the transition period to classicism. His teacher was A. Sacchi, with Raffaello and Carracci having exerted a particularly strong influence on his art. He predominantly painted altarpieces depicting Madonna and the Holy Family, as well as mythological compositions and portraits.
