In his early works, Zeljko Kipke, an academic painter who was born in Cakovec in 1953, followed the principles of primary and analytical painting. In 1980s, he introduced into his works stronger expressiveness, textual messages, two-dimensional figures, and elements of picture puzzles. In his more recent cycles, he returns to the abstract structure of the language of symbols.
Apart from being a painter, he also writes and publishes essays in art and literature periodicals. His works were shown in more than 40 one-man exhibitions in the country and abroad, among others also at the Venice Biennale in 1993 where he represented the Croatia art. He was awarded numerous prizes, including the "Josip Racic" visual arts prize awarded by the Vecernji list newspaper.
